My daughter turned two at the end of March and I threw her a Safari Party to celebrate. Think animals in party hats. I've tried to choose a theme that summarizes her year and her love of animals was what inspired me for this one. I love throwing parties and all things crafty, so getting to put on these celebrations for my daughter is a joy. I use Pinterest to gather my ideas and then narrow it down to put it all together!
Invitation
Every great party needs a great invitation. I prefer to send invites the old fashioned way so I found these cute party animals to do the job.
Décor
I took plastic safari animals, spray-painted them gold, and made them little party hats. I placed them around the food table, in the window with party fans, and tied ballon bouquets to a couple to use as balloon weights. They were so easy to create and totally adorable. We have a beautiful older home and the windows all have sills so I take advantage of the kitchen window to create a party backdrop. This year I used party fans and balloons.
Sweet Treats
I made two different kinds of cupcakes: chocolate with chocolate buttercream, and vanilla with whipped cream cheese icing. I decided to do cupcakes again this year for easier serving and to save myself some time. Plus, I love a good cupcake display. I had these perfect animal print cupcake wrappers that were gifted to me at my bridal shower.
Fun & Games
How do you occupy a bunch of toddlers? With a safari playdough invitation, of course! I set out a divided tray I thrifted with a ball of green homemade playdough in the middle and a variety of loose pieces for them to explore. I chose large stones, pieces of fake grass, fake plants, and a few wild animals. We also have a great playroom on our main floor that kept the kids busy.
Party Favours
I despise receiving useless junk, so when it comes to favours I either choose something that guests can use or I skip altogether. This year I made jars of homemade playdough for all the kiddies to take home with them. I spray-painted the lids and some tiny plastic animals to adorn the tops. I also created little 'thank you' tags to tie around the neck. If I had a do-over, I would pick different colours. But paint selection aside, this was one of my favourite details.
These first two birthdays, I allowed myself to go all out and plan elaborate affairs. After this, I'll consult her on the plans and keep it pretty minimal. Either way, I just love celebrating my favourite gal! What were some of your favourite details from this party?
